DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

FRIDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

"Lord, if you will, you can make me clean." And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately the leprosy left him. (Luke 5:12-13)

Healing was the central focus of Christ's public ministry. For in healing conversion came, through it many learnt about God's unfathomable mercy, etc.
In the course of this ministry, He often moved with pity especially when the penitent desires healing of his infirmities.

However, healing here goes beyond usual bodily cure of infirmities, but extended to spiritual cleansing which makes us acceptable sacrifice before the Lord.

In the course of today's reflection we bear our minds with Evangelist Luke who presented before us the healing of a leper; who acknowledged the healing power of Jesus and then requested for a healing, which Christ accepted the request, and grant him the healing.

"Lord, if you will, you can make me clean." And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately the leprosy left him. (Luke 5:12-13)

His acknowledgement of the divine supremacy sets him aright for the desired healing.

On another note, St. John in his first letter created similar atmosphere by inviting us to acknowledge Christ, for through this recognition that we will believe and will overcome the world.

"Beloved: Who is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"   (1 John 5:5-13)

It is in this spirit, that we need to put into action, acknowledgement of God as the Creator of creatures in creation, make request for our needs, healing of our infirmities will certainly come, then gratitude to God for the overwhelming healing granted.
Finally, if we so much desire to be healed, we must be ready to follow these four steps "ARHG". Then let us see ourselves as nothing but pencil in the hand of God.
Peace be with you!

Let us pray
O God, who through your Son raised up your eternal light for all nations, grant that your people may come to acknowledge the full splendour of their Redeemer, that, bathed ever more in his radiance, they may reach everlasting glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
