Mystery of the day: Glorious
Saints of the day
Ss. Timothy and Titus
St. Timothy was converted by St. Paul in the year A.D. 47 and Timothy became a fellow apostle with St. Paul. He was born in a place called Lystira and a son of a Greek father and a Jewish mother. Therefore Jews considered Timothy as illegitimate. He worked closely with St. Paul for about 15 years and became his trusted friend. He was with St. Paul when the Church at Corinth was founded. He was nominated by St. Paul as his representative in the Church of Ephesus. He was beaten to death by pagans, when he tried to stop a procession of idols taken out by pagans and their other ceremonies in the year 97 A.D.
St. Titus was a close friend of St. Paul and he was a Greek person from Antioch. St. Paul said that the mere presence of Titus was a moral encouragement to him. He was given the power to organize and manage the Christian community at Crete. Titus was a trouble shooter in the Church in as much as he was very able in successfully smoothening troubles in the Church at Corinth, with the help of the letter from St. Paul. Legend says that St. Paul refused to circumcise Titus. St. Paul also ordained Titus as Bishop of Gortyn in Crete. He died in the year A.D. 107 at the age of about 95 years.
Reflection for the day
Theme: The power of the Word
"The seed is the word of God, and the sower is Christ; all who find him will abide for ever." (cf. Like 11:8)
The "Word of God" as the scripture says is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12) and a light unto our paths. This same Word gave birth to all creatures in creation and out of love of God, it became flesh and dwelt among us. (cf. Genesis 1:1ff; John 1:1ff.)
In the light of this that Evangelist Luke alongside other synoptic writers proclaimed:
"The seed is the word of God, and the sower is Christ; all who find him will abide for ever." (cf. Like 11:8)
Every one of us desire this same Word, for in it we find consolation, in it we have life eternal and in it we all abide for ever with Him. The power of the Word of God can not be over emphasised, like a rain drop it wets the land and gives birth to fertility.
On this note, we are being invited to embrace the Word which Christ Himself implanted in us, and reflect on it, proclaim it through our actions and live it out as His followers.
In the entire creation account, there is nothing as powerful as the Word of God, it gives comfort to the wailing hearts and consolation to those in distress.
Finally, may this Word has a place in our hearts and yield in us fruit in abundance.
Peace, be with you.
Let us pray
Eternal Word, we believe that Your Word is the conclusion of every situation. Grant that we pray, the grace to be faithful to these Words of Yours in our thoughts and actions. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
