DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

TUESDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

Saint of the day
St. Ansgar
He was born at Picardy in France on September 8, 801 in a noble family. His mother died at his early age and he learned through a vision that his mother was with the Holy Virgin Mary. This vision gave him motivation to give more thought about spiritual matters. He then became a monk at an Old Corbie Monastery in Picardy. He did missionary work in Scandinavia, Denmark and Sweden. He also served as the legate of the Pope in the Scandinavian missions. He liberated many slaves captured by Vikings. He only built the first church in Sweden. His success in missionary work was due to his great preaching ability and the austerity and holiness in his personal life. He was very much devoted to poor people and sick persons and served them with all sincerity. He was appointed as the archbishop of Bremear in the year 848 and the same is united with Habsburg See by Pope Nicholas-I. He was called as the Apostle of the North. He died at Bremear, Germany on February 3, 865.

Reflection for the day
Theme:... and He heals.

"If I touch even his garments, I shall be made well." (Mark 5:28)

Healing is one of the central focus of Christ's public ministry. This singular ministry of Jesus attracted multitude to Him, for many followed Him not for the Word of conversion but for healing and other miracles.

Be that as it may, today from the Table of the Word, Evangelist Mark reechoed the event of the healing of the distressed woman with haemorrhage. In it we see "faith in action" when she said:

"If I touch even his garments, I shall be made well." (Mark 5:28).

A rare gesture among many who followed Jesus, even today.
The central message today reminded us of the need to be moved with faith in moment of difficult situation.

For many of us, seems to be doubtful of God's omnipotence due to the ugly situation we may find ourselves. Some feel that God has done with them, and then they decided to stay aloof from God.

Today, beloved in Christ we are asked to put on the "garment of faith" as the woman did. To make a move of faith to God in prayer, and trust solely in Him bearing in mind that He is a "can do God".
Peace, be with you.

Let us pray
Eternal Word, Your word is always true. Grant us we pray the grace to be closer to You always in every situation, so that we may receive healing of our infirmities without delay. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

SATURDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF THE ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Joyful

Saint of the day
Servant of God Brother Juniper
Brother Juniper has joined the friars in the year 1210 and St. Francis sent him to establish homes for friars in Gualdo Tadino and Viterbo. When St. Clare was in the death bed, Juniper helped and consoled her. He was very much devoted to the passion of Jesus. Every one praise him for his utter simplicity and generosity. When he was caring sick persons, one person has expressed his desire to eat a pig’s feet. Juniper then went out to the field and caught one pig and cut its one foot. Then served it with meals to that person. But the pig's owner came to the Friary and shouted at St. Francis and other friars there for cutting the leg of his pig. St. Francis of Assisi tole Juniper to apologize to the owner of the pig and Juniper explained him about the situation and convinced the owner even to give the entire pig to be slaughtered for charitable purpose. He used to share his clothing to anyone he saw half naked on roads. But his superior commanded him not to do such thing in future. In order to obey the superior, he used to tell the persons he want to share his clothing that he cannot give the clothes but he will not prevent others from taking it from him. Such was his generosity. Other friars avoid keeping anything lying around fearing that Juniper might donate it to others. He died on January 29, 1258.

Reflection for the day
Theme: Call to repentance

"As the LORD lives, the man who has done this deserves to die; and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity." (2 Samuel 12:5-6)

The call to repentance has been the major focus of God's messengers ranging from the Old Testament prophets, and New Testament teachers and prophets which Christ took the lead. Every God's command was to be given out in it's "rawnness" without diluting to suit the listener. This is exactly, what Nathan did today, and in response to the mind blowing case, David being a king drew out his sledge hammer then passed a judgment:

"As the LORD lives, the man who has done this deserves to die; and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity." (2 Samuel 12:5-6).

This is often our lot whenever it concern others. We are always at the side of passing out judgment not minding the circumstance. Today, we are being admonished, to go back to our spiritual drawing board to cross our "t's" and dot our "i's".
As we are still on a journey to our heavenly home. We need to retreat once in awhile to cross-check ourselves, whether we are on the right path of it or not.
Finally, as David retreated with a contrite heart over his sins, let us as well feel sorry over our inadequacies, and ask for God's grace to forge ahead. Recalling the wordings of David in Psalm 51, with a contrite heart God will not spurn. Let our hearts be torn for our sins, and the good Lord will rebuild it again in His love.
Peace, be with you.

Let us pray
Almighty God, grant we pray the grace of repentance. That in our daily living we may make with sincere effort keep in mind Your detect and ordinances. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

Friday OF THE THIRD WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

Saint of the day:
St. Thomas Aquinas
Thomas Aquinas was born on January 28, 1225. He has joined the Dominicans in the year 1243. His mother disliked this action of Thomas Aquinas and asked her another son to catch Aquinas and to bring him home. He was kept in the house for about a year. After freeing from his house, Aquinas completed his studies and directed the Dominican schools at Rome and Viterloo. He also lived in the court of Pope Urban-IV. When studying in Naples he was attracted to Aristotle’s philosophy. His writings are a great asset to catholic Christianity. He was offered the posting of Arch-Bishop of Naples by Pope Clement-IV but he refused. Thomas Aquinas died on March 7, 1274.
Thomas Aquinas was canonized by Pope John-XXII at Avignon on July 18,1323. He was also declared as Doctor of the Church by Pope Pius-V.

Reflection for the day
Theme: The docility of a Hero

"Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom." (Matthew 11:25)

The sacred mysteries of God is most often hidden, but revealed to those who are eager and willing to understand it. It does not entails becoming a giant, hero, King or occupying any exalted office, but it requires docility of heart, a heart of a child and openness before God.

In the light of this, that Evangelist Matthew on this day from the table of the Lord in the Gospel acclamation reminded us thus:

"Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the kingdom." (Matthew 11:25)

We are therefore exhort to learn form the fig tree, be humble and childlike; not minding our status, whims and caprices, for God knows it all. He remains the author and finisher of our lives. For there is nothing that we have, or the status we occupy that was not given to us.

Finally, as we join the universal Church today in celebrating "the Angelic Doctor" - St. Thomas Aquinas let us recalled his humility and then ask the good Lord to give us the grace of docility in our daily living.

Peace, be with you.

Let us pray

Almighty and eternal God, we bless Your name for the wonders of Your creation. Grant us we pray the spirit of docility as St. Thomas Aquinas, that we may decipher the secret of Your kingdom. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

WEDNESDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME YEAR (II)
Mystery of the day: Glorious

Saints of the day
Ss. Timothy and Titus

St. Timothy was converted by St. Paul in the year A.D. 47 and Timothy became a fellow apostle with St. Paul. He was born in a place called Lystira and a son of a Greek father and a Jewish mother. Therefore Jews considered Timothy as illegitimate. He worked closely with St. Paul for about 15 years and became his trusted friend. He was with St. Paul when the Church at Corinth was founded. He was nominated by St. Paul as his representative in the Church of Ephesus. He was beaten to death by pagans, when he tried to stop a procession of idols taken out by pagans and their other ceremonies in the year 97 A.D.

St. Titus was a close friend of St. Paul and he was a Greek person from Antioch. St. Paul said that the mere presence of Titus was a moral encouragement to him. He was given the power to organize and manage the Christian community at Crete. Titus was a trouble shooter in the Church in as much as he was very able in successfully smoothening troubles in the Church at Corinth, with the help of the letter from St. Paul. Legend says that St. Paul refused to circumcise Titus. St. Paul also ordained Titus as Bishop of Gortyn in Crete. He died in the year A.D. 107 at the age of about 95 years.

Reflection for the day
Theme: The power of the Word

"The seed is the word of God, and the sower is Christ; all who find him will abide for ever." (cf. Like 11:8)

The "Word of God" as the scripture says is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12) and a light unto our paths. This same Word gave birth to all creatures in creation and out of love of God, it became flesh and dwelt among us. (cf. Genesis 1:1ff; John 1:1ff.)
In the light of this that Evangelist Luke alongside other synoptic writers proclaimed:
"The seed is the word of God, and the sower is Christ; all who find him will abide for ever." (cf. Like 11:8)

Every one of us desire this same Word, for in it we find consolation, in it we have life eternal and in it we all abide for ever with Him. The power of the Word of God can not be over emphasised, like a rain drop it wets the land and gives birth to fertility.
On this note, we are being invited to embrace the Word which Christ Himself implanted in us, and reflect on it, proclaim it through our actions and live it out as His followers.

In the entire creation account, there is nothing as powerful as the Word of God, it gives comfort to the wailing hearts and consolation to those in distress.
Finally, may this Word has a place in our hearts and yield in us fruit in abundance.
Peace, be with you.

Let us pray
Eternal Word, we believe that Your Word is the conclusion of every situation. Grant that we pray, the grace to be faithful to these Words of Yours in our thoughts and actions. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

TUESDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

Celebration of the day
Conversion of St. Paul
The birth name of St. Paul was Saul and he was born in Tarsus for Jewish parents. He was a Roman citizen by birth and he took education at the feet of Gamaliel. He was brought up as a Pharisee.  He was persecuting Christians before and he was a willing witness to the martyrdom of St. Stephen, where he guarded the clothes of Jews who were throwing stones on St. Stephen. then he also entered house to house and dragged out Christians and handed them over to imprisonment.  His conversion to Christianity is by a miracle done by Jesus. He got authority from the Chief Priest and the Sanhedrim to arrest Christians at Damascus. When he was on his way suddenly a light covered him and he has fallen down. Jesus told him that'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting' (Acts 9 - 5). After this incident St. Paul became blind suddenly and could not see anything. But he regained his eye sight by the blessing of Ananias, as directed by Jesus. From that instant he became a very strong Christian and used his education to propagate Christianity among the Gentiles. He was instrumental in taking Christ to Gentiles by his hard work and through his letters. Tradition says that St. Paul was martyred along with St. Peter during the persecution of Emperor Nero.

Reflection for the day
Theme: Go into the world and bear witness

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned." (Mark 16:15ff.)

Beloved in Christ, peace and love of Christ Jesus be with you all. Amen.
Today, as we join the universal Church in celebrating the conversion of St. Paul, God puts before us two things:
i. A mandate to go into the world.
ii. Then to bear fruit.

This divine mandate borne out of God's invitation to us to co-particpate in building His kingdom on earth. As it contains in the proclamation of Evangelist Mark one of the sypnotic writers:
"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned." (Mark 16:15ff.)

This Mandatum gives us the unction to function as Christ's faithful through the reception of the Sacrament of Baptism which initiates us into the Mystical Body of Christ (the Church).

However, we are being reminded of the fact that, this solemn command is a sign to bear witness to what we believe and practice not minding challenges that may face us. God Himself has assured us right from time immemorial that He will not desert us and has launch us into great exploit as Evangelist John says:

"I chose you from the world that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, says the Lord" (John 15:16)

Let us therefore, bear fruits, not any kind of fruits but only fruits that will last and the world will see and glorify our Father in Heaven.

Peace, be with you.

Let us pray

Dearest Lord, we are grateful to You for the gift of life, for it's sustenance and hope amidst every hopeless situation. Grant we pray the grace to be faithful to Your command in witnessing to the Truth through our day-to-day living. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

MONDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Joyful

Saint of the day
St. Francis de Sales
This saint was born in the noble Sales family of the Duchy of Savoy, on August 21, 1567 in France and studied law in Padua. His father was Francoise de Sales, Lord of Boisy and mother Francoise de Sionnz. He was ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Geneva on December 8, 1602, where Calvinist sect of Christians were having very strong presence. Francis took very sincere efforts for converting Calvinist Christians to Catholicism. He became the Bishop of Geneva at the age of 35 years. He often say that perfection in devotion can be preserved even in family life, as in desert life. He started to write sermons and copied them by his hand and slipped them through doors of the houses that did not open for him. This is considered as the first use of religious tracts to communicate with people. He collaborated with St. Jane Francis De Chantal in founding the Congregation of Visitation, an Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary to observe and practice the virtues of humility, piety and mutual charity, in the visit of Holy Mary to Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. He was made an official associate of the Capuchin Order, when he was Bishop. He died on December 28, 1622.
He was beatified on January 8, 1661 by Pope Alexander-VII and canonized by the same Pope after four years on April 8, 1665. He is remembered as a patron of journalists because of the tracts he wrote.

Reflection for the day
Theme: ... and He gives life eternal.

"Our Saviour Christ Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel." (2 Timothy 1:10)

One of the most searching phenomenon by man is search for life. Though some search for the longevity of the present life, while others keep on pressing button to behold beatic vision. Putting the two side by side, a thought provoking question arise?

To what extent have we prepared to behold the life of given to us, whether temporal or eternal? For those seeking for long temporal life are still pursuing shadow, meaning that "no matter how much we desire to have this life in abundance" none of us will leave this ephemeral world alive, we must die. It is not an option but a fact beyond argument.

On another note, the second camp searching for life beyond what we live now, St. Timothy in his second letter reassures us in the gospel acclamation as he says:

"Our Saviour Christ Jesus abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the Gospel." (2 Timothy 1:10)

This implies that, our searching should be rooted in Christ, who is "the way, the truth and the life." And the life in question is beyond what we can all see, but desire of.

For Christ was sent for this very reason, to reconcile man with God and then give life beyond the present life.

However, we are all admonished on this day to be conscious of the fact that we are just passing by. That what we see in this present life is nothing more but the foretaste of what we are yet to see, until we cross the rubicon of this life into the other life which Jesus Himself died for, we cannot have life in abundance.

Peace, be with you

Let us pray

Eternal God, we are thankful to You for the gift of life and for all creatures in creation. We beseech Thee O! Lord to bless us with insight to see beyond the present life, and then ever ready to get into the eternal life. We ask this through Cbrist our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

SATURDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Joyful

Saint of the day
St. Vincent
He was ordained as a deacon in Spain by his friend Valerius of Saragossa. The Roman Emperors published their edits against Christian clergy in the year 303 and against the Christian lay people in the year 304. During this time Vincent and his Bishop were arrested and tortured to hand over sacred scriptures and also to give up the faith. But they refused and Vincent was tortured on a gridiron. But tortures could not change the faith of Vincent. The Emperor was so irritated that he ordered to beat the guards who were in charge of Vincent. Vincent was then detained in a filthy poisonous cell and there he changed the mind of the jailor of the prison and converted him to christianity. Then the guards gave some rest to the torture of Vincent. During this time some friends visited Vincent and placed him on a comfortable bed. The life of Vincent that refused to leave from him due to torture, left him when he was comfortably placed on a bed and he died peacefully. The Governor Dacian asked mthe guards to throw the body to be devoured by vultures but a bird raven guarded the body of St. Vincent. Then his body was thrown into the sea but it came to the shore and was burried by a pious widow.A shrine was constructed over his grave, which is said to have been guarded by ravens (birds).

Reflection for the day
Theme: Looking up to God

"Let your face shine on us, Lord, and we shall be saved." (Psalm 80:4b)

Man right from time immemorial has been in need, and dependence on God. The story of his request from God to give him a helper goes a long way to prove this reliance on the Divine (cf. Genesis 2:21ff.)

In the light of this, we all need God's mercy and His salvation, else we will become "null and void". We cannot do anything on our own except God is invited. As the watch man is watching over the city in vain, except he commends his duty to God, else his effort will be fruitless.

Therefore, the response of today's Psalm reminded us of our total dependence on God as it says:

"Let your face shine on us, Lord, and we shall be saved." (Psalm 80:4b)

We need to seek His face as well as His kingdom first as the scripture invites us to, so that every other desires of ours will be added to us. We need to be closer to Him, in our thought, word and action. If this is done we will be happy and fulfilled.

Peace, be with you.

Let us pray

Eternal God, we thank You for Your love and care. We beg Thee O! Lord to give is the grace to see in You all that we need, for relying on You comes fulfilment and comfort. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

FRIDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

Saint of the day
St. Agnes
St. Agnes was a very beautiful young Christian girl of 13 years old and was born in the year A.D. 291. Due to her beauty, many young persons wanted to marry her. But she refused to marry anyone. One person named Procop son of the Prefect of the area, wanted to marry her. But she refused to marry that person also. The son of the Prefect informed the authorities that Agnes was in fact a Christian. She was then arrested and detained in a house of prostitution. She was sentenced to death by the Prefect Sempronius and she was dragged naked along a street. But due to her prayer her hair grew suddenly and covered her entire body miraculously. When the authorities tied Agnes to a stake to burn her, the wood did not burn and the flames went away from her. Legend also says that one person who looked Agnes with lust, lost his eye sight but his eye sight was restored miraculously by the prayer of Agnes. Another true story about her life is that another son of the Prefect died suddenly when he attempted to rape her. But he was also revived miraculously after the prayer of Agnes. Then a soldier beheaded her by his sword and she died on January 21, 304. It is also said that a basilica was constructed in honor of St. Agnes by the daughter of Emperor Constantine.
She is considered as the patron saint of chastity, gardeners, girls, engaged couples, rape victims and virgins.

Reflection for the day
Theme: The reconciliation of man.

"God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation." (2 Corinthians 5:19)

One of the major attributes of God is His unfathomable love for humanity. Despite man's disobedience which led him to the lost of original grace. (cf. Genesis 3:1ff.)

He did not abandoned man to the whims of total damnation, but still had him at the centre of His thought with the sending of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for the reconciling of humanity back to Himself. (cf. John 3:16).

In the light of this, that today's reflection takes its theme from the gospel acclamation:

God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation." (2 Corinthians 5:19)

This reminded us of His love for humanity, and invitation to preach this words of reconciliation to wherever man is found. We are therefore, called to mind this priceless sacrifice made by Christ through His solemn paschal mystery of passion, death and resurrection.

Let us therefore become the harbinger of this good news through our actions by reconciling with one another, so as to reciprocate this Divine gesture upon humanity. As David did to Saul despite the opportunity God offered him; still he let go and then Saul ended up reconciling himself with Him. (cf. 1 Samuel 24:2-20)

Finally, as long as we desire reconciling touch from God, we are to put ourselves on the path of reconciliation with one another first. In doing this, we will be reconciled with the Creator of creatures in creation.

Peace, be with you.

Let us pray 🙏

Almighty God, we are grateful to You for Your faithfulness. We thank You for reconciling us back to Yourself despite our our shortcomings. We pray Thee O! Lord for the grace to be steadfast in holding this message of reconciliation and preach it in words and action wherever man is found; as we continue to seek the intercession of St. Agnes. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

WEDNESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR (II)
Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

Saint of the day
St. Fabian
He was a Roman layman born in the year about 200 A.D. He came to the city from his farm, in the anxiety of knowing the new Pope who would be elected soon. The Pope Anteros died in the year 236 and the people including the clergy were preparing to elect a new Pope at that time. The great Church historian Eusebius said that one dove came down from the roof ceiling and sat on the head of Fabian, while the christians were assembled there to elect the pope. The lay people and the clergy thought that God had identified Fabian as a fit candidate for papacy. Therefore they elected Fabian unanimously as Pope. During that time there was no persecution of christians and the Emperor Philip was also friendly with the christians. As Pope St. Fabian headed the Church for 14 years from January 10, 236 to January 20, 250. He died as a martyr during the persecution of the next Emperor Decius on January 20, 250. Another famous Church historian Cyprian said that the glory of death of Fabian was 'incomparable' with others in holiness and purity.

Reflection for the day
Theme: The Supreme Power of God

"...and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD's and he will give you into our hand." (I Samuel 17:47)
Most often due to the way we see ourselves, our net worth and connections, we seem to be so confident in ourselves such that, we become gods/godesses unto ourselves. O! what an empty confidence. We tend to forget the power of the Almighty who sees beyond our sight.

Today, the first book of Samuel presents alongside with other biblical passages the supreme power of our God; stating that it is beyond the size or connection that it is about God and God alone.
"...and that all this assembly may know that the LORD saves not with sword and spear; for the battle is the LORD's and he will give you into our hand." (I Samuel 17:47)
Right from time immemorial, God has proved to us in many ways His readiness to fight our battle, assuring us of His unconditional concern about our welfare, as the book of Exodus says:

"The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” (Exodus 14:14).

And in another part He says:
"You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you.”
(2 Chronicles 20:17)

These and many are His promises to us, and as such, we have no need to be afraid for He is there with and for us. Every battle we are facing daily is not beyond us and our God, it is there to make us get closer to God and be hopeful, that with God all things are possible.

It is not by our might but by the spirit says the Lord. Let our hearts not be troubled but rejoice that with God we are conquered.

Peace, be with you.

Let us pray 🙏

Merciful Lord, we continue to thank You for Your faithfulness and love. As we keep on rely on Your love and mercy ignite in us the spirit of sincerity that all that we know about You may not be doubted. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

TUESDAY IN THE SECOND WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME YEAR (II)
Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

Saint of the day
St. Charles of Sezze
He was born on October 19, 1613 in a place called Sezze, south-east of Rome and his birth name was Giancario Marchioni. He was inspired by the lives of Salvatore Horta and Paschal Baylon and joined the Franciscans in 1635. He served as a cook, porter, gardener, sacristan and beggar at different Friaries in Italy. St. Charles wanted to come to India for gospel work but that could not happen. He had a strong sense of God’s providence. He was so saintly that the Pope Clement- IX called St. Charles to his side for blessing when the Pope was in his death bed. Many people sought him for spiritual guidance. He remained always as a lay brother and never requested to be ordained as a priest. Finally he died at a place called Francesco a Ripa in Rome onJanuary 6, 1670 on the feast day of Epiphany and was buried there.
St. Charles of Sezze was beatified by Pope Leo-XIII on January 22, 1882 and canonized by Pope John- XXIII on April 12, 1959.

Reflection for the day
Theme: Beyond man's understanding

"...for the LORD sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart." (I Samuel 16:7)

It is obvious that, most often appearances are deceptive, that is, what we see may not be real in actuality.
In man's judgment and understanding, hugeness and beautifulness become the yardstick of a great man, but God does not see as man sees.

In today's reflection, we bear our minds to the consecration of David as the king, the least son of Jesse, who was considered trivial in the scheme of things. As the youngest, he was errand boy, whose position was not noticed. (cf. I Samuel 16:11).

Beloved in Christ, we are being reminded that no matter how we see ourselves or others see us, the master plan of God in our lives cannot be changed. He has the final say. By His solemn paschal mysteries of passion, death and resurrection He paid the debt in full. A debt He did not owe. He did this not minding our status and our short comings. He did not see us in the same way man sees, even the way we see ourselves.

Indeed, He chooses the weak just like David to shame those who think they are strong. The way of God can never be the way of man. As the sky is higher than the earth, so is His thought higher than that of man.
Finally, never see yourself as the least no matter the situation for you were bought with a price which no human can afford. Trust and obey, for He is in charge.
Peace, be with you.

Let us pray
Almighty and everliving God, we are grateful to You for Your faithfulness. Kindly look with pity upon us, as we place our trust and hope in You. Give us the grace to see beyond human level, so that we may come to the understanding of Your rich glory in us. We ask this through Cbrist our Lord. Amen.

MONDAY IN THE SECOND WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Joyful

Saint of the day
St. Anthony of Egypt(Abbot)
He was an Egyptian and was also called St. Anthony of Egypt. He was born in a wealthy family in about the year 251 A.D. in Lower Egypt (in Cooma near Herokleopolis Magna) and inherited about 300 acres of land. He sold everything he owned and distributed it among the poor after keeping very little for his needs and his sister's needs as per the verses of Gospel ' Go sell what you have and give to the poor' (Mark 10:21). He entrusted his sister to a convent and went out of the village for a life of fasting, prayer and manual labor. He lived a life of solitude and lived in an enclosed old abandoned Roman Fort for about 20 years and he communicated with outside only through a crevice in the Fort and food was sent to him through it. The Governor of Alexandria once called St. Anthony and ordered him not to confess to Christianity publicly. But he refused. He was so saintly that once Emperor Constantine-I wrote him praising and requesting him to pray for him. The saint was credited by two local noble men for assisting them in recovering from skin disease. Those noble men founded the Hospital Brothers of St. Anthony, which specialized in nursing of victims of skin diseases. St. Anthony is generally appealed by people to get cure from skin diseases.

Reflection for the day
Theme: Obedience: the greatest of the sacrifices

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king." ( 1 Samuel 15:22-23)

Today's reflection takes its lead from the ancient biblical aphorism: "Obedience is better than sacrifice..." a command from God through Samuel to Saul when Saul paid deaf ear to God's command by returning from the war with the spoil of the war, which supposed to be destroyed along side with the city.

His justification was not good enough for he said, it was to be offered to the Lord as burnt offering. It is in this line of thought that, God spoke to Samuel reminding of the need to obey:

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king." ( 1 Samuel 15:22-23)

However, in our society today, many prefer to take this path by getting to the top through fraud and cheating and at the long run offered part of the wealth as ransom in the Church.

Morally speaking no matter one's justification, what is wrong is intrinsically wrong. The end can never justifies the means. What is evil, is evil itself. And what us good remains good in itself. This therefore provoke this thoughtful question:
Does God delight in offering of tears, oppression or human sacrifices?
"No" remains the answer. For His detects and ordinances should be our watchword.

Man desires nothing but the product of the Lord's Prayer which Christ Himself taught His disciples - "provide us the daily bread." And in another part, the Scripture says "with the labour of your hands you will be blessed." (Psalm 128:2)
But not through crook and mischievous way of getting wealth.

Keeping to the detects and ordinances of God wins one eternal blessing, blessing beyond every sacrifice and human telling. As the Psalmist reechoes today in the liturgy of the word:

"To one whose way is blameless, I will show the salvation of God." (Psalm 50:23bc) We need salvation, for in it has all that we need or desire, but not in sacrifice with the ill-gotten spoil from debauchery. Let our sacrifice comes from our daily toil of sincerity, then our offering on the altar will be acceptable like the sacrifice of Abel the just, and Abraham our father in faith and bosom friend of God. Peace, be with you.

Let us pray

Almighty God, we thank You for the many blessings You showed on us every now and then. Bless us we pray with the grace to keep faithfully to Your detects and ordinances; and may our daily toil be characterised with sincerity of mind, so that our offering before You will not be in vain. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

SATURDAY IN THE FIRST WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME YEAR (II)
Mystery of the day: Joyful

Saint of the day
St. Paul the Hermit
He was an Egyptian hermit and the first Christian hermit. He was born around the year 233 A.D. and was orphaned at the age of 15 years. He fled to the Theban desert during the persecution of Christians by Emperors Decius and Valerianus around the year 250 A.D. He lived in a cave and lived only on the fruits of a palm tree for food and clothing woven from that palm tree and drinking water from a spring nearby. After about 21 years a bird (Raven) brought him half a loaf of bread daily for food. St. Anthony the great has attested to the holiness of this saint. When St. Anthony the Great once met St. Paul in his cave, the usual raven bird that used to bring half a loaf of bread daily, brought a whole loaf of bread on that day, miraculously for use by both the saints. St. Paul the Hermit lived up to 122 years and died in that cave at about 345 A.D. Tradition says that St. Anthony the Great buried St. Paul the Hermit and two lions helped St. Anthony in digging the grave. St. Paul the Hermit is generally portrayed with a palm tree and two lions.

Reflection for the day
Theme: Follow me....

"Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." (Mark 2:17)

The Messianic ministry of Jesus was different from the expectation of the Pharisees. They thought of one, who will be riding on a donkey, dinning with Kings and Queens, and above all not he who will have anything to do with the anawim of the society.

And today, Evangelist Mark in the gospel pericope described His "messiahship" as that whose reign is for all.
"Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners." (Mark 2:17)

The description here depicts that of a true Messiah who came to serve and not to be served, one whose primary duty was to search for the lost children of Israel and showing compassion to all, for we are all sons and daughters of Abraham.

Having called on the tax collector to follow Him not minding his societal status is yet a credit and hope that He is for all. For St.Paul says: "God doesn't call the qualified. He qualifies the called." (I Corinthians 1:27-29)
We saw many instances where God called those who were weak to shame the mighty.
Remember that: Noah was a drunk, Abraham was too old, Moses had impediment of speech,  Isaac was a day dreamer, Jacob was liar, Leah one of the ugliest, Joseph was abused, Gideon was fearful, Sampson was a womaniser, Rahab a prostitute, Jeremaiah and Timothy we're too young for the ministry,
David a murderer, Elijah at a point was suicidal, Isaiah preached naked, Jonah ran away from God, Noami a poor widow, Job went bankrupt, Peter denied Jesus in the broad day light, the divorced Samaritan woman, and so long a list.

Of all these characters, God still found something in them. Let us therefore, carries our weakness to God, for grace to follow Him. Once we accept to follow Him, He will qualify us.
Peace, be with you

Let us pray 🙏
Merciful God, we thank You for Your love and care; as we have come to the realization of our weakness. Please we beg Thee, perfect our imperfections and purify our impurities. And make us qualified servants of Yours. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

FRIDAY IN THE FIRST OF THE ORDINARY TIME YEAR (II)
Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

Saint of the day
Servant of God John the Gardener
He was born to very poor parents in Portugal. He spent his early life begging from door to door because he was orphaned in his early age. He worked as a shepherd in Spain. He was then invited to do gardening work by two Franciscans, who met him during a travel. Since he did gardening work, he was called 'Gardener'. God has gifted him with the power of telling prophesy and to read the minds of others. Princes and other important persons in the society used to meet him to seek advice for various things. He even predicted his own death that was on January 11, 1501.

He used to advise everyone that forgiving the offenses of others is also an act of penance and will please God.

Reflection for the day
Theme: And He forgives and heals...

"I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home." (Mark 2:11)

The healing power of Christ needs no questioning. It supercedes human understanding. For the Pharisees, they saw Him as a mere human whose power is limited; not knowing that He is true God and true man.

Their doubt developed from their human thought, without paying attention to the Divinity whom He gladly shared with the father. This power was highly acknowledged by the paralyctic who knew that only Christ can heal him of his infirmities and restored him to normality.

This gesture invites us to the recognition of the healing power of Christ, who is able to forgives and heals no matter how grave our inadequacies may be.

Therefore, we need to present our cares and worries before Him as the paralytic  did, notwithstanding the obstruction that our sins may caused. For God who is and ever ready is willing to give us a leaning shoulder.
May this healing and forgiving of the paralytic opens the door of faith for us to move more closer to Christ always. For by His stripes we are healed.
Peace, be with you.

Let us pray
Eternal Word, we thank You for every now and then, Your kindness towards us cannot be quantified. Grant us we pray, faith beyond our weakness as the paralytic who came in search of you. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

THURSDAY IN THE FIRST WEEEK OF ORDINARY TIME YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Luminous

Saint of the day

St. Hilary of Poitiers
He was born in the year 300 A.D. He was a married person with one daughter named Apra. He was elected Bishop of Poitiers by the laity and the clergy. But he was exiled from Poitiers to the East in the year 356 for his refusal to support the condemnation of St. Athanasius, by the Arian Christians, when Constantius was the emperor. He was the first Latin Christian Hymn writer. He was called as the 'Hammer of the Arians' and the 'Athanasius of the west'. He died in the year 368 and declared a Doctor of the Church in 1851 by Pope Pius-IX.

Reflection for the day
Theme: The healing power of Christ

Jesus was preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom and healing every infirmity among the people. (cf. Matthew 4:23)

One of the fascinating parts of Christ's ministry was "compassion". In most cases, He moved with pity to grant comfort, peace above all healing to the wailing souls despite the odds He must have faced with.

He breaks jinx just for the freedom of His children. As we can see in the gospel reading of today (cf. Mark 1:40-45) where Jesus out love and compassion had pity on the leper. The Scripture says, when the man with leprosy approached Him, he requested for a healing if He (Christ) so desire. This was granted out of love by Christ.

Dearest in the Lord, we must have faced serious challenges in our various families and work places. These ill-development surrounding us is our share of leprosy; as it separate us from the normal way of life.

Just like the leper, we need to get closer to Jesus, to request from Him healing and in certainty our situations will not be the same again. For the Psalmist has invited us today to join him in seeking for God's redemption (cf. Psalm 44). May this kind gesture of our Lord on the leper be ours today. Amen.

Peace, be with you

Let us pray 🙏

Eternal Word, we thank You for Your love, care and peace we have enjoyed. Grant us we pray, the grace to be closer to you always, no matter the situation we find ourselves. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

TUESDAY IN THE FIRST WEEK OF ORDINRAY TIME OF THE YEAR (II)

Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

Saint of the day:
Blessed William Carter
William Carter was a married printer and book seller. He was born in 1548 to father John Carter and mother Agnes in London, England. He died a martyr, on January 11, 1584. He was arrested for printing a new edition of Dr. Gregory Martin’s book titled 'A Treatise of Schisme' in 1580. He was charged on January 10, 1584 in the Central Criminal Court in England for an objectionable paragraph in the said book. The objectionable paragraph in the book said that the 'Catholic Hope' would triumph and Pious Judith would slay Holofernes. This was interpreted as inciting to kill the Queen of England. At that time expressing catholic faith in England was considered as taking side with Spain and punished severely. This situation was due to the tension prevailing between Queen Elizabeth-I of England and king Philip-II of Spain. The offense is a treason and William Carter was sentenced to death on January 10, 1584. He was executed on January 11, 1584. He was venerated on Novemner 10, 1984 and beatified on November 22, 1987.

Today's Reflection
Theme: The power in the Word

Accept the word of God, not as the word of men, but as what it really is, the word of God (cf. 1 Thessalonians 2:13)

There is nothing as powerful as the Word of God, even God Himself acknowledged the supremacy of His Word over every other creatures in creation. Thus, all creatures in creation spring from the Word.

In the creation account, God gave man the unction to function through word, by dominating every other creatures (cf. Genesis 1:28). This mandate gave man the impetus to act in relation to God.

In another place man was called to a life of prayer with golden rule to ask (using the word) and it will be given to him (cf. Matthew 7:7; Luke 11:9ff.)

It is on this note that we see the power in the Word manifested in the first reading of today, where Hannah wept bitterly before the Lord, and in the midst of her excruciating pains she utters:

"O LORD of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your maidservant, and remember me, and not forget your maidservant, but will give to your maidservant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, ..." (I Samuel 1:11)

These words of Hannah was respected, because she spoke with authority as the daughter of Abraham.

In view of this, dearest friend(s) in Christ, what is that situation which bothers you, your family, business or area of daily task? And you have put in your best yet it not good enough to scale through the hurdle.

Now, we are being reminded of the "power of tongue" God gave to us to ask and we will receive. Hannah did same and she returned to the temple with testimony, others in the past, even today and the nearest future will continue to lead the rejoicing crowd into the Church with thanksgiving, for they called on God and they were answered.

Therefore, put on your spiritual mantle this season of spiritual renewal and make your cares and worries known to Him in prayers and groaning. Then wait and see the marvellous works He will do. Remember, He did it before, He is doing it and will continue to do it. May His words be fruitful in our hearts.

Peace, be with you.

Let us pray 🙏

Merciful Lord, kindly accept the homage of our lips, we pray Thee. We acknowledge the power of Your Word among us right form the moment creation began, sustain these Words in our hearts and give us the grace to speak it in relation to Your will for us. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

MONDAY OF THE FIRST WEEK OF ORDINARY TIME YEAR (1)
Mystery of the day: Joyful

Saint of the day:
St. Gregory of Nyssa

He was a son of two saints namely Basil and Emmilia and born in 330 A.D. He was brought up by his elder brother St. Basil the Great and educated in the beginning by his mother Emmelia and sister Macrina. He went to study for priesthood after his marriage since celibacy was not required for priests, then. He was elected Bishop of Nyssa in 372 A.D but was deposed in 376 by the Synod of Nyssa due to certain allegation against him. But he regained his See in 378 probably due to the reason of the amnesty promulgated by the new Emperor Gratian. He wrote effectively against a Christian sect called Arian Christians (a sect founded by a priest named Arius of Alexandria), which denied divinity for Jesus Christ. He gained the reputation as a defender of orthodoxy. He was given a prominent position in the Council of Constantinople. He died in 395.

Today's Reflection
And Jesus said to them, "Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men." And immediately they left their nets and followed him. (Mark 1:17-18)

On this first day in the ordinary time of the liturgical season, we are being invited to a "service of followership". This solemn invitation calls for detachment to attachment. That is leaving personal comfort to the service of others. In the Old Testament era, many were called to detachment from comfort zone to attach themselves to the Divine. Though uncertainty engulfed human hearts, but God was there to lead them to the greener pasture.

And today, according to Evangelist Mark a call is placed on us, to follow Christ. Just like the apostles who left what they were doing and gladly followed him.
And Jesus said to them, "Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men." And immediately they left their nets and followed him. (Mark 1:17-18)

Therefore, let us detach ourselves from where we think is a comfort zone, and then give a positive response to this clarion.

Consequently, let be aware that our response will yield us fruitfulness this season of hope, where the mystery of Christ's public ministry will be revealed in its totality.
May the peace of Christ dwells in our hearts so that we may accept this call not minding how rigorous the path may seems; for Jesus has the way through which we sail.
Peace, be with you!

Let us pray
Almighty and ever living God, we are grateful to You for yet another spring season of our faith. We pray Thee O! Lord for the grace to be quick and positively respond to Your call to followership with sincerity of heart. That we may continue to bear fruit in abundance. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

FRIDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

"Lord, if you will, you can make me clean." And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately the leprosy left him. (Luke 5:12-13)

Healing was the central focus of Christ's public ministry. For in healing conversion came, through it many learnt about God's unfathomable mercy, etc.
In the course of this ministry, He often moved with pity especially when the penitent desires healing of his infirmities.

However, healing here goes beyond usual bodily cure of infirmities, but extended to spiritual cleansing which makes us acceptable sacrifice before the Lord.

In the course of today's reflection we bear our minds with Evangelist Luke who presented before us the healing of a leper; who acknowledged the healing power of Jesus and then requested for a healing, which Christ accepted the request, and grant him the healing.

"Lord, if you will, you can make me clean." And he stretched out his hand, and touched him, saying, "I will; be clean." And immediately the leprosy left him. (Luke 5:12-13)

His acknowledgement of the divine supremacy sets him aright for the desired healing.

On another note, St. John in his first letter created similar atmosphere by inviting us to acknowledge Christ, for through this recognition that we will believe and will overcome the world.

"Beloved: Who is it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?"   (1 John 5:5-13)

It is in this spirit, that we need to put into action, acknowledgement of God as the Creator of creatures in creation, make request for our needs, healing of our infirmities will certainly come, then gratitude to God for the overwhelming healing granted.
Finally, if we so much desire to be healed, we must be ready to follow these four steps "ARHG". Then let us see ourselves as nothing but pencil in the hand of God.
Peace be with you!

Let us pray
O God, who through your Son raised up your eternal light for all nations, grant that your people may come to acknowledge the full splendour of their Redeemer, that, bathed ever more in his radiance, they may reach everlasting glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

THURSDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
Mystery of the day: Luminous

Beloved: We love God, because he first loved us. If any one says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. (1 John 4:19-20)

The language of love has been one of the difficult concepts to be translated into visible reality among humanity today. Every interpreter has his or her motif of interpretation.

Sometimes the motif behind interpretation has sentiment and condition attached to it. Thus, making the language of love too difficult to understand. Though "love" is a term with many languages but it has one understanding, and that is "God".

The scripture right from time immemorial has given us an in depth meaning of love, with reference to God - our creator. Then in turn invites man to love same. This invitation which came over two thousand years has left man with a fundamental question: " How much does he love?"

In the same spirit that, Evangelist John on our tabloid today has this to say:

Beloved: We love God, because he first loved us. If any one says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. (1 John 4:19-20)

An exhortation inviting us to love others as we ) love ourselves, for in doing this, it is God whom we love. For all men were created in His image and likeness (cf. Genesis 1:26).

Sadly, this admonition add little or nothing to our day-to-day living. For many love for reason(s), such as: connection, beauty, intelligent, material possession, etc. Then, if these are the yard stick for loving, it therefore means that there is no love at all. Though many of us claim to love God, while bargaining the price on how to sell out others. Yet suddenly forget that "he who sells out his brother or sister has no trust before the buyer".

Hence, let the drum beat of love sounds once again in our hearts for others to dance as we wish for ourselves. For God is love indeed.

Amen

DIVINE WHOSPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

WEDNESDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
Mystery of the day: Glorious

"Take heart, it is I; have no fear." And he got into the boat with them and the wind ceased. (Mark 6:50-51)

Most often when we see ourselves at the crossroad of life, we become afraid, as confusion be loud our thoughts.
At that point, we suddenly forget the Omnipotency of the Divine, since we so much trusted in our strength.

Fear therefore becomes the outcome of self-reliance at this point, as it created a sort of lacuna in our relationship with God.
On this note, that Evangelist Mark reminded us of the Omnipotency attribute of God, whose possibility is unlimited. And then becomes a call to connect with the Divine in faith, for absence of faith brings about fear just as what we see in this text:

"Take heart, it is I; have no fear." And he got into the boat with them and the wind ceased. (Mark 6:50-51)

He is a "can do God" his possibilities cut across all boundaries, we need a little of faih to understand this Divine mystery, that in every situation we find ourselves God is in charge.
Neither by our power, nor our strength, but by the spirit of God who directs, teaches, and comforts. This of course will bring us solace amidst calamity.
Finally, put on your helmet of faith in every situation, there and then you will see the finger of God.  "Fear not" He says, "it is I." May these Word has fulfilment in our lives through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Peace be with you!

Let us pray
O God, who bestow light on all the nations, grant your peoples the gladness of lasting peace, and pour into our hearts that brilliant light by which you purified the minds of our fathers in faith. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

TUESDAY AFTER EPIPHANY
Mystery of the day: Sorrowful

"Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love." (1 John 4:7-8)

One of the most abused terms in our daily living is "love". It is considered to be abused because of the poor understanding of many.

"Love [n.]: A feeling of strong attachment induced by that which delights or commands admiration; preeminent kindness or devotion to another; affection; tenderness; as, the love of brothers and sisters."

The above definition gives a clearer understanding of what love is to many, "A feeling of strong attachment induced by what which delights..." That is to say, without the condition attached, then there is no love.

In some situations, love is being conditioned to race, sex and culture, outward appearance and not the inner feelings. It is love for what it is at that point in time, beyond what is seen, there is no love. Some love for beauty, that is to say if it fades, then love does not exist.

Consequent upon this, that Evangelist John exhort us in these words:

"Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God; for God is love." (1 John 4:7-8)

This admonition points toward "agape" - the Godly Love, which cut across boundaries, race, sex, culture and every human condition.

Obviously, God is love, and there is no better word to describe Him than with the language of love. For it is through love that man was created not with mere words as other creatures; but in the image and likeness of God, and not only that, man was the only creature who was privileged to receive the Divine breath as well as the mandate to rule the earth with all its contents. (cf. Genesis 1:26ff.)

What greater love has God for man? Love beyond human telling, love devoid of condition, unseasoned kind of love, that is "timeless love".

Therefore, we are called to love one another in other to reciprocate this Divine attribute of His on humanity.

Finally, let love speaks and let us translate the word "love" into action; in doing this we will love beyond measure.

Peace be with you!

Let us pray

O God, whose Only Begotten Son has appeared in our very flesh, grant, we pray, that we may be inwardly transformed through him whom we recognize as outwardly like ourselves. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

MONDAY AFTER EPIHANY
Mystery of the day: Joyful

"Beloved: We receive from God whatever we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what pleases Him." (1John 3:22)

Beloved in Christ, greetings to you and your household in the name of the Father - creator of Heaven and earth, in the name of His beloved Son - the Word incarnate and redeemer of the world and in the name of the Holy Spirit our teacher and comforter, Amen.

We are here now through the amazing grace of God whose wish for us is always good.

In our reflection today, we key into the words of St. John in his first letter, who reechoed the admonition of Evangelist Matthew (cf. Matthew 7:7-8)

"Beloved: We receive from God whatever we ask, because we keep His commandments and do what pleases Him." (1John 3:22)

God is all-knowing, He knows our cares and worries, and absolutely nothing is strange to Him.

Today, Evangelist John reminded us the need to present our troubles before Him, though He is all-knowing, we need to ask to show the necessity of the need. "For God who created us without us cannot save us without us"  as the ancient thought goes. We need to co-participate with God in day-to-day living. Bearing in mind that, God cannot do for us, what we ourselves can do, He only do what we cannot do.

In the light of this, we are exhort to keep to the detects and ordinances of God, which serve as the caveat to receive from Him whatsoever we ask.

Finally, as the year opens with bountiful blessings, beautiful hopes and aspirations, let us put God first in our daily struggle. Indeed, He will never disappoint us.

Peace! Be with you.

Let us pray

Almighty ever-living God, who through your Only Begotten Son have made us a new creation for yourself, grant, we pray, that by your grace we may be found in the likeness of him, in whom our nature is united to you. Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
