DIVINE WHISPER with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

MONDAY OF THE 15TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME OF THE YEAR

Mystery of the day: Joyful

Theme:  Self-denial

"...and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:38)
Dearest friend(s) in Christ Jesus, I welcome you (all) to the dawn of this new day in the Lord's name. In our reflection today, we bare our minds with our Lord's Words according to today's Gospel pericope as put down by Evangelist Matthew. Here we are being reminded of the need to empty ourselves, deny ourselves of most of the things that are not necessary for our spiritual growth.

Christ our Lord and Master who emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant... (Philippians 2:7) has called us today to eschew pride, vain glory and all sort of vices and follow Him as He says:
"...and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:38)
We therfore need to take up our daily Cross and follow Him, this cross in question calls for humility and docility. We need to carry it with perseverance hoping to reach our destination in peace. No need to complain but to pray for grace to move on. Life in itself most often does not offer us what we bargain, but to be on the safer side we must accept in good fate the lot our God marked for us.

Beloved in Christ, it is worthwhile to see Jesus in our pains, in our tribulation we need to acknowledge His abiding presence in us; for we know in certainty that we cannot get it right without Him. Every healing comes from Him and leaning shoulder we desire can only be provided by our God.

Finally, let us not see our struggles as that which will push us down but a stepping stone to the crescendo of life. Peace, be with you!

Let us prayer

Eternal Word, we thank You for the gift of this new day. As we begin please begin with us and give us the grace to persevere in our daily struggles while keeping Your detects and ordinances in mind. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
