Table of the Word
First Reading: Baruch 1:15-22
Gospel: Luke 10:13-16
Theme:
“We have sinned against the Lord and disobeyed him; we have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God” (Baruch 1:17-18).
Reflection
The exiled people of Israel lift up a prayer of collective confession. Their plight is not by accident but the fruit of turning away from God (cf. Baruch 1:15-22) Here he gives voice to the humility of a people who finally recognize their fault: sin wounds, pride blinds, disobedience scatters. Yet, even in exile, God listens to contrite hearts.
The psalm continues this penitential cry: “Do not hold against us the guilt of the past… Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name” (Psalm 79:8-9). God’s mercy is greater than wrath, His desire for reconciliation stronger than our rebellion.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus rebukes Chorazin and Bethsaida for their hardened hearts. as they witnessed miracles, yet failed to repent. He warns: “Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me; and whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me” (Luke 10:16). The Word of God demands not passive hearing but active conversion.
Beloved in Christ Jesus, today's lesson invites us to be honest with God about our failures; because true prayer begins with truth. We are also exhorted not to delay repentance rather let the Word of God transform us.
Finally, remember that in every act of disobedience lies a call back to mercy. Today, choose to return and He will certainly welcome back as prodigal sons and daughters
+ Peace be with you.
