EASTER DIGEST with Fr. PiusRalph EFFIONG, SMMM

FRIDAY OF THE SEVENTH WEEK IN EASTERTIDE

Table of the Word
First Reading: Acts 25:13b–21
Gospel: John 21:15–19

Theme: Follow me.

Reflection:
Dearest friends in Christ Jesus, as we are waiting in joyful hope for the renewal of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon us, we are called to mind the great invitation of our Lord today: "Follow me."
According to Evangelist John in today's Gospel pericope he gives us an account of our Lord's  tender yet powerful moment with Peter. After the trauma of Peter’s threefold denial during the Passion, Jesus now invites him into a threefold affirmation of love: “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Each time Peter responds, Jesus entrusts him with a mission: “Feed my lambs… Tend my sheep… Feed my sheep.” (cf. John 21:15–19)

This passage speaks deeply of reconciliation and restoration. Jesus does not reprimand Peter; instead, He gently reaffirms Peter’s identity and vocation. The call to shepherd others flows not from perfection, but from love, a love that is humble, purified, and matured through failure and forgiveness.

However, in the first reading, we see Paul’s trial unfolding, the tension of earthly power structures contrasting with the quiet yet resolute witness of one who belongs to a higher kingdom. Just as Peter is recommissioned in love, Paul remains steadfast in proclaiming the risen Christ, no matter the cost (cf. Acts 25:13b–21)

Beloved in Christ Jesus, in our day-to-day living experience let us not forget this great invitation to follow the Master who is the: "the Way to Eternal Life." This can only be achieved when we keep to the detects and ordinances of God who is all-in-all in our lives.
+ May the Lord bless His words in our hearts both now and forevermore. Amen
