Inspiration

In the course of this week liturgy of the Word we bare our minds on the trials, lamentation and triumph of Job, a man who was familiar with suffering but at the appointed time He triumphed. The book of Job concludes with Job's response to God's revelation, demonstrating his steadfastness and humility. His faith journey was charaterized with humility amidst adversity which God later on restored him with bountiful blessing. This chapter brings about major reactions by Job and God's intervention and restoration:

*"I know that you can do all things...no purpose of yours can be thwarted." (Job 42:2-3)

* "I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." (- Job 42:5-6); and then God restores Job's fortunes, blessing him with twice as much as before. (cf. Job 42:12-17).

Beloved in Christ, as Christ followers we are obliged to be steadfast in our ways, trusting in God and above all live out the gospel values as we have seen in today's gospel pericope where the Apostles sent out were steadfast in their ministry which yielded a bountiful harvest just like the blessing of Job.

It is on account of this steadfastness on their part that God bestow this blessing upon all those who walk in faith and hold tenaciously to this detects and ordinances:

"Blessed are the eyes which see what you see! For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it." (see Luke 10:17-24).

As Job who acknowledges God's sovereignty and power, we ought to see the finger of God in everything amidst uncertainties of life. It is through these experiences adorned with humility that our understanding of God will be deepened. In this that God will certainly reward and restore our fortune.  Peace be with you!

Let us pray

Dear Heavenly Father, Help us to trust Your sovereignty, cultivate humility, and remain steadfast in faith. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
