ADVENT DIGEST with FR. PIUSRALPH EFFIONG, SMMM

MONDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT
Mystery of the day: Joyful

"... a star shall come forth out of Jacob, and a sceptre shall rise out of Israel." (Numbers 24:17a)
Beloved in Christ, on this day (Monday) of the third week of advent, the Church called to mind the supreme authority of our Lord which the first reading describeed Him as a rising star from the lineage of Jacob and sceptre out of the land of Israel (cf. Numbers 24:17a) His kingdom was not of this world but of God.

Consequently, this Divine plan raises dust among the Chief priests and elders in today's gospel pericope, having witnessed the authority of Christ in teaching and healing (cf.Matthew 21:23-27). They did not understand the worth and authority of our Lord, thus pushing them to ask our Lord on whose authority does He teach and heal?

Dearest friends, in our day-to-day living, do we recognize the authority of Jesus? Do we believe in Him as the rising star of the David's lineage? Then, if not we are not far from.the camp of the Chief priests and elders we have seen in today's gospel.

As we are anticipating the commemoration of the first coming of the Word incarnate, whose sceptre and power comes from God, let us make haste to prepare for His coming. Let our thougts, words and actions bear witness to His authority, so that we may see Him as He really is on the last day.
Peace! Be with you.

Let us pray
Incline a merciful ear to our cry, we pray, O Lord, and casting light on the darkness of our hearts, visit us with the grace of your Son. Who lives and reigns with you, God for ever and ever, Amen.
