THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT
"Do not..."
Dearest in the Lord, Happy Weekly Easter to you. Yes, it is weekly Easter because it is the Lord's day. On this third Sunday of our solemn preparation for the great festival of Easter. We are being instructed on the "do's" and "don't" of life as prescribed by the decalogue. (cf. Exodus 20: 1ff.)
In the light of this great command from God, He left us with the promise saying:
"But showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments." (Exodus 20:6)
This reading reminded us of the sacrifices which are acceptable to God coupled with an invitation to purify our religion of cults that have nothing to do with love of God or of our neighbours. Keeping in mind that without love of our neighbours, our claim to love God is vanity. For in loving our neighbours, that we publicly display the love of God.
In other words, no true worship can take place with a heart of malice, gossip, envy and corruption. Let us get rid of these vices for the betterment of ourselves, our neighbours and to the greater glory of our God.

O God, author of every mercy and of all goodness, who in fasting, prayer and almsgiving have shown us a remedy for sin, look graciously on this confession of our lowliness, that we, who are bowed down by our conscience, may always be lifted up by your mercy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
